Ashley Furniture Owners Issue Statement On Store Closures - KRCRTV.COM

In a press statement released Thursday, Robert Meyers says the reason he closed his stores was because "our major creditor, Ashley Furniture Industries, took steps which made it impossible for us to continue to operate." Meyers went on to say that Ashley asked him to surrender assets, which he agreed to do on one condition, orders that had not been delivered needed to be.

All three stores are under investigation by the California Attorney General's Office. The state began their investigation earlier this year after receiving numerous complaints from customers who said they never received furntiure they paid for.

BUTTE COUNTY A man caught allegedly agreeing to buy alcohol for a minor in Chico ended up in a lot more trouble once he was caught by police.

TEHAMA COUNTY A major drug operation in Tehama County by the North State Marijuana Investigation Team (NSMIT) ended with the arrests of seven suspects, and the seizure of 2824 pounds of processed marijuana.

8000 stores sign up for 'Is It Home Yet?' campaign - Furniture Today

LAS VEGAS — The World Market Center said 8,000 stores have signed up to be part of a store locator as the WMC promotes its second annual National Home Furnishings Month "Is it Home Yet?" consumer campaign this month.

It also said that in the past two months, more than 500 retailers have signed up to offer the related Home Mortgage Sweepstakes this month, where one consumer will win mortgage payments for a year (actually $24,000 in cash, based on an average monthly home mortgage expense of $2,000).

Some 460 retailers have told the WMC they plan to use the free "Is it Home Yet?" toolkit in their advertising. "National Home Furnishings Month was created to unite retailers, providing them with the necessary tools to inspire a newfound customer enthusiasm," said WMC President and CEO Bob Maricich.

"We believe the new addition of the Home Mortgage Sweepstakes for 2010 is compelling for both retailers and consumers, providing an exciting opportunity for families to ask themselves what long dreamed-of items they would purchase for their homes if they had the extra money in their pockets each month," he said.

Bedbugs 'not a concern' for campus residents - N.C. State University Technician Online

A growing national concern over the insects, with nearly one in 15 people reporting infestations in some areas such as New York City, has prompted widespread efforts to help control the problem. On campus, there have been two confirmed infestations in the past year.

Both documented cases on campus occurred in Western Manor Apartments, which is on South Campus near the Avent Ferry Complex, and both resulted from residents bringing in used mattresses. There have been no confirmed cases in any residence halls on main campus.

There have been no confirmed cases in any residence halls on main campus. "Bedbugs should not be a big concern for students, but we need to be careful to understand how outbreaks occur, and how to prevent them," said Tim Blair, university housing associate director.

Bedbugs can be picked up while traveling, especially from hotel rooms. "They are very efficient hitchhikers, even more so than most college students," said Waldvogel.
